American Idol Season 9: Los Angeles Auditions


The search for the next American Idol continues in the "City of Angels". Are there any future music superstars in the making?
Day 1
Guest Judge: Avril Lavigne whose hit songs include "Complicated" and "Holding On"
Neil Goldstein-has an IQ of 168; computer geek; sang "Rock and Roll Dreams Come True" by Meat Loaf; Nervous; he's not suited for the music industry; terrible singing; no golden ticket!!
Jim Ranger-worship pastor and father of three children; sang a song he wrote; authentic voice; Avril said No because she was concerned that Jim would leave his family behind for a music career; the other judges said yes--he's off to Hollywood!!
Jayson Wilson, Jesse Chang, Martin Perez--NO SHOT OF WINNING "IDOL"
Damian LeFavor-Martial arts fanatic; sandwich maker; sang Righteous Brothers' "You've Lost That Loving Feeling"; blew his shot of going to Hollywood; no chance of a recording career
Mary Powers-has a 8 year old daughter who loves Simon; sang Pat Benatar's "Love is a Battlefield"; cool voice; she needs to change her rocker look; Rocker Girl is going to Hollywood
A.J. Mendoza-big fan of Adam Lambert--Season 8 Runner Up; almost looks like Adam; sang terribly; can't sing as well as Adam; No to Hollywood
Day 2
Guest Judge: Katy Perry whose hits include "Hot & Cold", "I Kissed A Girl" and "Waking Up In Vegas" who fought with fellow judge Kara
Austin Fullmer- sang Cheap Trick's "Surrender"; Way over the top; cheap Mick Jagger; No dice!
Andrew Garcia-father; his parents were in gangs; born and raised in Compton, California; genuine voice; picked a good song to sing; the judges like him; Andrew's ready to change his life forever because he is going to Hollywood
Tasha Layton-Personal assistant by day and pastor by night; sang Joss Stone's "Baby Baby Baby"; that gurl can sing; OH HAPPY DAY--SHE'S OFF TO HOLLYWOOD!!
Jason Green-student; sang DiVinyls "When I Touch Myself"; no singing career for him EVER!!!; Katy was confused!!!; no golden ticket for Jason
Chris Golightly-grew up in foster care since he was an infant; sang Ben E. King's "Stand By Me"; One of Kara's favorites; the one to watch in the competition; unanimously voted through to Hollywood
22 lucky contestants from the L.A. auditions are heading to Hollywood!!
Side Note: "Crying Girl" fan of Sanjaya from Season 6 tried out and didn't win a golden ticket
