American Idol Season 9: Dallas Auditions


Everything is bigger in Texas. The Idol audition tour is in "Big D"-Dallas, TX to find some future singing stars.

Guest Judge: Neil Patrick Harris ("How I Met Your Mother")
Julie Kevelighan-Auditioned in season 1 but didn't make it to the finale; sang Alanna Myles' "Black Velvet"; her voice not good enough for Season 9 so she didn't win a golden ticket to Hollywood for the second time
Lloyd Thomas-father of 2 daughters; sang "Overjoyed" by Stevie Wonder; Simon's favorite audition; 4 Yeses-going to Hollywood!!
Kimberly Carver-sang a song she wrote; awesome; great vocal but Simon was unimpressed; 3 yeses from the other judges so Kimberly's going to Hollywood hoping to change Simon's mind
Dexter Ward-confident that he is the next American Idol but when he sang Shai's "If I Ever Fall in Love" he sang awfully; no singing career for Dexter
Erica Rhodes-actress; she was on "Barney & Friends" as a kid; sang En Vogue's "Free Your Mind"; rocked it; Barney Kid grows up and goes to Hollywood!!
Dave Pittman-Diagnosed with Tourette's Syndrome at the age of nine; has trouble breathing when singing; sang Sam Cooke's "Bring It On Home"; great voice; unanimous from the judges-Hollywood!!

Megan Wright-her parents were divorced but later remarried; sang "To Make You Feel My Love"; Simon was surprised; Megan's off to Hollywood!!
Vanessa Johnston-what in the world she's wearing?!; sang "At Last"-Etta James; pitchy; her Idol Journey is over!!
Christian Spear-16 years old; diagnosed with cancer at age 4; sang another Etta James which I don't know the title of; natural gift; fearless; brave; 4 yeses; she's off to Hollywood!!

Chris Golightly-grew up in foster care since he was an infant; sang Ben E. King's "Stand By Me"; One of Kara's favorites; the one to watch in the competition; unanimously voted through to Hollywood

American Idol Season 9 Orlando Auditions


The Season 9 American Idol auditions are in Orlando, Florida--the home of Walt Disney World and Universal Studios.
Guest Judge: Broadway star and TV actress Kristen Chenowith--she was awesome on "Glee"
She quickly bonded with Kara--FOX should put on a show starring those two--more fun than Paris and Nicole
Day 1
Theo Glinton-what in the world was he wearing?; sang Pat Benatar's "Heartbreaker"; screamed the song; he has dreams of opening a hair salon; his dream is coming true because the judges aren't giving him a pass to the next round; ditch the godawful outfits--that's not how an American Idol should look
Seth Rollins-Married with 2 kids--his son is diagnosed with autism; sang Frank Sinatra's "Someone to Watch Over Me"; made it his own; Kara wants hear more of Seth's voice--she will get that chance in Hollywood because Seth's moving to on the next round!!
Jermaine Purifoy-Auditioned in Season 7 and didn't make it; sang "Smile"--Tony Bennett; Randy was blown away; believable; legit; girls will love him; he's heading to Hollywood
Shelby Dressel-Unable to move the right side of her face; she graduated from high school; sang "Turn Me On" by Norah Jones; she has potential; hope she makes Top 24; Shelby wins a golden ticket to Hollywood!!

Jared Norrell-butchered the classic spiritual "Amazing Grace"; he doesn't have the vocal chops to win the competition; he sounded like a lawnmower; the judges say no!!; he refused to leave the audition room so security escorted him out and hit the security guard so he was taken out in handcuffs!!
Matt Lawrence-touching story-he robbed a bank at the age of 15 with a BB gun and spent 4 years in jail; he manages his dad's trucking company; sang "Trouble"--great song; he can really sing--has a good shot of doing well in the competition; he could make Top 12; Matt's going to Hollywood and hopefully change his life forever!!

The American Idol auditions head to the hometown of our current President Barack Obama, Oprah and season 3 finalist and Oscar, Grammy and Golden Globe winner--Jennifer Hudson. It's the "Windy City", "Chi Town"--Chicago!!
Guest Judge: country singer Shania Twain
Katelyn Epperly-19 years old; her parents are divorced; sang Duffy's "Syrup and Honey"; good voice; needs more energy; she could sing a #1 hit song; she's off to Hollywood!!!
Amy Lang-26 years old; has fantasies about Ryan Seacrest--creepy!!; sang Aretha Franklin's "Dr. Feelgood"; her boobs were moving back and forth; the judges say no to Amy's Idol Journey
Charity Vance-16 years old from Little Rock, Arkansas; faithful 'American Idol' fan; sang "Summertime"; personal style; made it her own; Charity's going to Hollywood!!
Angela Martin-third time on 'Idol'; the first time--the death of her father forced her out of the competition, the second time--her traffic court date made her miss her Hollywood audition; sang "Just Fine" by Mary J. Harold Davis-determined to break the dry spell; sang "Nice & Slow" by Usher; the judges crushed his dreams; 4 NOs!!!--the drought of golden tickets continues
Chantelle Grazckowski-Another Idol journey ended before it began--NO!!
John Park-student; Shania liked him--was she drunk?; good voice; FINALLY--A GOLDEN TICKET ON DAY 2 IN CHICAGO HAS WON!!
Paige Dachausse-arrived at the auditions with her family in a limousine; had asthma since she was a child and almost died; sang "Change is Gonna Come"-Sam Cooke; pitchy; Simon said NO but Randy and the ladies said YES to Paige; Paige's going to Hollywood!!!
Justin Ray, Keith Semple, Marcus Jones--Good voices, sang on pitch--YES!!

Award Show Watch 2010: The Golden Globes

The 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards were held last night in Los Angeles, California. The rain did not dampen the spirits of Hollywood's biggest stars. Luckily for the female celebrities, their dresses were spared by the rain. Ricky Gervais hosted the ceremonies and there was some NBC bashing but the stars had the victims of the devastating earthquake in Haiti in their thoughts and prayers.

American Idol Season 9 Week 1: Boston and Atlanta Auditions


Greetings, Idol Fans! Welcome to Season 9 of American Idol. The search for next pop music superstar begins with auditions in Boston and Atlanta.
We start in Boston
Randy, Kara and Simon are joined at the judges' table by Victoria Beckham (aka "Posh Spice") wife of L.A. Galaxy soccer superstar David Beckham.
First up: Janet MacNamara-Mastered the American Idol video game but didn't master her American Idol audition; she sang Natasha Beddingfield's "Pocketful of Sunshine" and sounded awful; No golden ticket for her--not a good start to season 9
Maddy Curtis-16 years old: Has 8 siblings with Down's Syndrome; She is a true American Idol fan--watching the show since she was 8 years old; she sang "Hallejulah" by Leonard Cohen; good singer with soulful voice; likeable; 4 yes votes from the judges; She's off to Hollywood!!!
Pat Ford-17 years old; His singing and dancing did not impress the crowd in the holding room; ruined "Womanizer" by Britney Spears--I'm not listening to that song again; can't sing a note and can't dance a step well; Randy begged him to stop singing forever--amen, dawg!!; No record deal for Pat
Jennifer Hirsh, Claire Fuller, Jess Wolfe-great singers; They are going to Hollywood!
So far, the girls at the Boston auditions have gotten the gold tickets to the Hollywood round. The guys better bring it!
Amodeo Rocco-28 years old; Italian; Providence, RI; bartender; over the top; sang "Hoochie Coochie Man" by Muddy Waters--a blues song; good voice; Simon's favorite audition so far; great personality-he's off to Hollywood; his brothers celebrate like crazy
Derek Hilton-spiritual guy; likes long nature walks; thinks he sounds like Chris Brown; unfortunately, he doesn't sound like Chris Brown at all when he sang Elton John's "Sorry Seems to Be The Hardest Word"; NO DICE!!
Mary Doyle-anime fan; designs and makes her won kimonos; her desire is to become to a successful pop singer in Japan; sang Janis Joplin's "Piece of My Heart"; her voice is not good; no chance of winning American Idol and no chance of being a pop superstar in Japan; Choose a career other than singing
Luke Shaffer and Benjamin Bright were harmonizing in the holding room before facing the judges.

Benjamin Bright-sang "All My Loving" by the Beatles; good voice; he's through to Hollywood
Andrew Fenlon-musician, has been waiting impatiently to tryout for Idol; Simon hated his attitude; sang "House of the Rising Sun" and bored the judges to death; Kara got upset at Andrew's rudeness and arrogance; No golden ticket for Andrew!
Bill Bloom & Michael Ryan-Awful voices; NO!!
Ashlee Rodriguez-sang Alicia Keys' "If I Got You"; looks good and has a good voice--she can sell some records; she will do well in the competition--she will be the one to watch; Kara's favorite; she has a good shot of winning the competition--Yes!! she moves on to the Hollywood round!!
Tyler Grady-Injured his wrists when he fell out of a tree; plays drums in a rock band; he wants to be the frontman of a rock band; sang "Let's Get It On" by Marvin Gaye; the girls will like him and vote for him; Simon will remember Tyler; Tyler goes to Hollywood!!
Lisa Alavero-Waitress; sang "Vision of Love" by Mariah Carey; Not yet ready for "Idol"
Ryan Keane-No shot of going to the Top 12!!
Mike Davis-works on a Boston speedboat; sang the Beatles' "Yesterday"; confident; sang on point; Randy was unimpressed; Simon, Kara, & Victoria like him--He's off to Hollywood!!
Katie Stevens-16 years old; grew up in a Portuguese family; her grandmother doesn't speak a word of English and has Alzheimer's; she sang Etta James' "At Last"; a star is born, natural talent, amazing stage presence; she should be in the competition; may make the top 12; Katie's journey continues in Hollywood
Joshua Blaylock-28 years old; sang a Rascal Flatts song; forgettable; needs more assertiveness; no presence; no originality; has to bring a new attitude; He's going to Hollywood!
Justin Williams-diagnosed with cancer at age 20; he is now cancer-free!!!; sang "Feeling Good" by Michael Buble; the ladies will love watching him perform every week and has a shot of going all the way; Welcome to Hollywood, Justin!!
Norberto Guerrero-sang "Everytime We Touch" by Cascada; ear splitting; he won't be the next American Idol!!!; sang like a 3 year old and dressed as Latoya Jackson with a beard-No chance in hell
Bosa Mora-originally from Nigeria; has 6 sisters; he has a good voice; Simon was bored; needs more star power; got a lot of work to do if he wants to become the American Idol; off to Hollywood
Leah Lorenti-has strict parents; wants to prove to her parents that she can have a singing career; sang "Blue Skies"; she has good vocal skills; emotional; Randy was impressed; Leah goes to Hollywood
Boston Auditions-31 contestants will be in the next round in Hollywood
ATLANTA AUDITIONS
The season 9 auditions continue in Atlanta, GA. In the past, the Idol Atlanta auditions had discovered season 3 winner Fantasia, season 2 runner up Clay Aiken and season 3 finalist and Oscar and Grammy winner Jennifer Hudson. FYI: the birthplace of host Ryan Seacrest. Will Atlanta find new stars? Grammy winning singer Mary J. Blige joins the judges and offers her opinions and critique.
Dewone Robinson-Music is in his blood; His uncle discovered Gladys Knight & the Pips-seriously?; sang a song he wrote; worst song ever; not right for "Idol"
Kia Johnson-26 years old; Competed in Miss America Pageant; won Miss Congentiality title; took a big risk of singing "My Heart Will Go On" from "Titanic" by Celine Dion; genuine; the risk paid off--she goes to Hollywood
Miriam Lemmoui, Noel Reese, Tisha Holland-Great singers; Going to Hollywood!!
Jermaine Sellers-church singer; he has been taking care of his mom who has a spinal cord condition since age 17; sang "What If God Was One of Us" by Joan Osbourne; incredible; got skills; 100% going to Hollywood
Cristina Marie Agronow-TV show hostess and producer; sang Pat Benatar's "Love Is A Battlefield"; sounded terrible; not ready for a singing career but she can share her American Idol experience with her TV audience
Vanessa Wolfe-bridge jumper; lives in the small town of Venore, Tennessee; wants to make something of herself; big country voice; distinct; stand out; authentic; she needs to practice real good and step up her game in the Hollywood round or she will be struggling in the latter rounds of the competition; small town girl is going to the big city-Hollywood, California!!
Jessie Hamilton-almost died 3 times; sang Garth Brooks "If Tomorrow Never Comes"; he forgot most of the lyrics; not ready for the music business; stick to the welding
Holly Hardin aka "Guitar Girl"-dressed like a guitar; sang "You Ain't Woman Enough to Take My Man" by Loretta Lynn; fun personality; sweet talked Simon; she's off to Hollywood

Lamar Royal-over the top; argumentative with the judges; insulted the judges & Mary J. Blige; was escorted out of the building by security
General Larry Platt-62 years old???..what the hell he is doing auditioning for American Idol; he performed that everyone will be talking about--"Pants on the Ground"; the judges were laughing hysterically; he is too old for American Idol but the song will be a new classic

Awardsshow Watch 2010: The People's Choice Awards



The first awards show of 2o1o and the new decade is the only awards show where the winners are chosen by the people. You voted and now it's time to find out your favorites in television, music and movies. Live from the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles...this is the 2010 People's Choice Awards hosted by Queen Latifah!!

Queen Latifah opened the show with a musical number honoring tonight's nominees. The first award of the night is Favorite Talk Show and the people have chosen "The Ellen Degeneres Show" for the eleventh time in a row. Ellen DeGeneres thanked her fans and joked about Oprah being cancelled. She will making her judging debut on "American Idol" in February during the Hollywood Round. It will be interesting to see how well she can tell the contestants that they are not continuing on in the competition. She presented the category of Favorite Comedy Movie and the people chose "The Proposal" which starred Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds.

Tim Gunn ("Project Runway") and Nicole Schlezinger (The Pussycat Dolls) presented a trailer for the new movie "Robin Hood" starring Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett coming to theaters later this year. Queen Latifah starred in a spoof of "Paranormal Activity" with a guest appearance by Cloris Leachman doing God knows what with a married couple in the bed with the video camera rolling. Thank goodness, it's a not sex tape. Country group Rascal Flatts presented the Favorite R & B Artist category and Mariah Carey was voted as the people's favorite. She wore a long dress and luckily she didn't fall..her husband Nick Cannon helped her up on stage to get the award.

Kate Walsh ("Private Practice") presented the Favorite TV Comedy Actor award. The fans had chosen Steve Carell ("The Office") as their favorite funny guy who makes them laugh. Fans of "The Office" were very happy.

Sofia Braga ("Modern Family") and James Denton ("Desperate Housewives") humorously presented the Favorite TV Comedy Actress award and the people loved Alyson Hannigan of "How I Met Your Mother"

Jeff Probst ("Survivor") gave us a preview of the new season of Survivor starting in February. The title: "Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains" brings back your favorite Survivor contestants from past seasons. Can you believe it that this year marks the tenth anniversary of the premiere of the first Survivor?

Chevy Chase ("Community") and Jenna Elfman ("Accidentally on Purpose") present the Favorite TV Comedy award..the fans voted and the winner is...."The Big Bang Theory!!" Luckily for the fans, they like the nerds. There's a chance that "Community" and "Accidentally on Purpose" will be cancelled after this season. They are not funny shows.

Christian Slater ("The Forgotten") introduced a performance of Mary J. Blige singing "I Am".

Katie Cassidy ("Melrose Place") and Kellan Lutz (the "Twilight" movies) presented the Favorite Country Artist award...the people chose (what a suprise!!) Carrie Underwood who just got engaged to a hockey player. Congrats, Carrie on your engagement!!

Paula Patton ("Precious") presented the Favorite TV Drama Actor award and the fans had voted Hugh Laurie of "House" who was sitting next to Carrie Underwood in the audience. "House" won Favorite TV Drama.

Will I Am of The Black Eyed Peas introduced a sneak peek of one of the blockbuster movies coming this year--"Clash of the Titans" starring Liam Neeson.

Queen Latifah had fun in the audience and spotted Taylor Lautner and Nicole Kidman. The seat filler took their photo. The always funny George Lopez cracked up the crowd as usual and presented the Favorite Movie Actress award and the winner is....Sandra Bullock!! The crowd was cheering wildly.

Jackie Chan and Taraji P. Henson got new movies coming this year. Jackie Chan's newest is "The Spy Next Door" and Taraji P. Henson's "The Karate Kid". They're bringing "The Karate Kid" back? Anyway, they presented the Favorite Action Star. The people chose...Hugh Jackman!!

Queen Latifah starred in a Twilight skit with Robert Pattinson. I bet the girls were screaming. It was funny.

Favorite Independent Film: "Inglorious Basterds" Directed by Quentin Tarantino. The movie's stars presented the Favorite Breakout Movie Actor award to Taylor Lautner. The girls went balistic!!! Btw...the third "Twilight" movie: "Eclipse" comes out in June.

Josh Holloway ("Lost"--final season starts February 2) and Jennifer Godwin ("Big Love") presented the Favorite Male Artist award and the fans voted Keith Urban who is married to Nicole Kidman

Colbie Callat & Demi Lovato ("Sonny with a Chance") introduced a performance by Cobra Starship with an appearance by Nicole Schlezinger

Jessica Alba ("Valentine's Day" ) presented a new category Favorite Web Celeb. Who should win that award? The fans voted Ashton Kutcher as their Fave Web Celeb. Ashton is constantly on Twitter and he has over 1,000,000 followers and I have 29 followers. Ashton is in the "Valentine's Day" movie with Jessica Alba and a big all star cast. Everybody will want to go and see that movie.

Kathryn Morris ("Cold Case") and Greg Grumberg ("Heroes") presented two awards. First, the Favorite New TV Drama award: "The Vampire Diaries". Those vampires are very hot on TV and in the movies right now. Then, the Favorite New TV Comedy: Yay!!! "Glee" That makes me happy. To thank the fans for their support and watching the show, the cast gave the audience a slice of pizza.

L.L. Cool J ("NCIS: Los Angeles") presented the Favorite Female Artist award. The winner is...Taylor Swift!!! She thanked her fans for going to her shows and buying her music. Kanye West was nowhere in sight!!

Closing out the show, Sasha Baron Cohen, star of the two worst and boring movies of the 2000s: "Borat" and "Bruno" presented the Favorite Movie Actor award. The people chose...Johnny Depp who was chosen Favorite Actor of the Decade. What a very special honor for Mr. Depp who will be starring in "Alice in Wonderland" in theaters--this March.

Before I wrap up, it is cold here in Memphis, TN as well as in the Midwest. We are getting some snow tomorrow...I can't wait to get out and have fun in it. I'll post some pics soon. Until next time, stay warm and take care.
